AMS Data Portability
You own your data. Learn how to export your book of business from any Agency Management System and integrate it with modern tools—no vendor lock-in required.
Feeling Trapped by Your AMS?
Many independent brokers feel “stuck” with their current Agency Management System. Whether it's Applied, Vertafore, or EZLynx, the fear of losing years of policy data keeps agencies from exploring better options or integrating modern tools.
Here's the truth: you own your data. Every client record, every policy, every transaction belongs to your agency—not your software vendor. This guide shows you exactly how to access and use that data.
“A broker's book of business is their most valuable asset. No technology vendor should hold that asset hostage.”

Understanding Data Portability
Learn the fundamentals of AMS data ownership and the AL3 standard

Your Data, Your Right
Every policy record, every client contact, every transaction you've built belongs to your agency. State insurance regulations and industry standards guarantee your right to export and take your data with you.
What is AL3? Plain English Explanation
Think of AL3 (ACORD Level 3) as the “universal translator” for insurance data. Just like how a PDF file can be opened on any computer, an AL3 file can be read by any Agency Management System. It's the insurance industry's agreed-upon format for moving data between systems.
What's Inside an AL3 File?
An AL3 export contains everything that makes your agency valuable: policy details, client contact information, coverage specifications, claims history, billing records, and document references. It's essentially a complete snapshot of your book of business in a portable format.
The “Book Roll” Explained
A Book Roll is industry jargon for a complete data export. When you hear someone say “roll my book,” they mean export all policy and client data from one system to transfer it to another. Every major AMS supports book rolls in AL3 format—it's often a contractual requirement.
You can request a book roll at any time. There may be a processing fee (typically $500-$2,000 depending on volume), but no vendor can legally refuse to export your own data.
How EOICart.ai Uses Your Data
When you integrate EOICart.ai with your AMS via AL3, we read only the policy fields needed to generate ACORD 27 certificates: policy numbers, insured names, coverage amounts, and current mortgagee clauses. We don't store your master data—we reference it transiently to produce documents on demand.

This pipe-delimited format is efficient for computers but nearly impossible for humans to read. Each line represents a different record type (POL=Policy, NAM=Name, ADR=Address, etc.).
